Today was a slow day for the bike tours so I took advantage of the down time to spend with my two son's Luke and Joel. A little thing that I came up with this summer was to plan out a bike route that would be interesting for my children and allow me some time with them. Today, we took the bike path from Islamorada to Tavernier to a local pub called Dillon's for lunch. It was a 3 mile round trip. Other days, we will ride to Founder's Park and go swimming at the pool. Imagine, 160 acres of Beach front property for $3.27. The three pioneer family's of Islamorada actually purchased this property for that little. They Homesteaded their lots in the late 1800's and that was the fee to obtain a deed. This picture is of the beach at the Mooring Village properties, once owned by the Pinders. All the pioneer family's lived on the beach because of the ocean breeze and shade which made early Keys life bearable. Their school, church and homes were built on the beac...
